Baguio City has more than beautiful views to offer. If someday you are interested in something a little more culturally and less landscape kind of a tour. You need to visit the BenCab museum.

It is located six kilometers away from the city, in the municipality of Tuba, you will feel immediately the peace and calm of the environment. Is where art and nature bond together in the Philippines.

BenCab stands for Benedicto Cabrera. Who is a very recognized artist in the country, hailed as a master of the contemporary Philippine art. He has been painting 50 years now and is known as the best-selling painter of his generation of Filipino artists. Even Paul McCartney owns a Benedicto Cabrera painting and he has won a lot of prices and rewards for his pieces of art.

For example, BenCab won in 1992 an award Gawad CCP Sining (Cultural Center of the Philippines Award for the Arts) and in 2006, the Philippine Government conferred upon him the Order of National Artist for Visual Arts  In 2009 and the University of the Philippines conferred upon him an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree.

This amazing artist doesn't deserve less than a museum with his name. This amazing building was Designed with modern architecture. The place ’s a four-level museum. It has this high ceiling and the walls are made of glass to let in the beautiful sun natural lights.

In the second and third floor you will find the gallery and on the fourth floor the restaurant and some other installations such as contemporary art or some crafts.

Inside the museum, you can find all kinds of things, such as tabayag (lime containers), hagabi (wooden bench), tribal weapons and native pieces of equipment. The tour will be more than worth it! We have been talking about the Wright Park and The Mansion House before but there are so many places to visit in the city and the Mines View Park is one of the favorites and most visited. 

Points to visit in Baguio- The Mansion House

We gave you an imaginary ride to Wright Park last time. But today we are going to take you to the Mansion House. In one of the most beautiful places in Baguio City right across this amazing park, we found the official summer house of the president of Philippines.

But this wasn't the original purpose. This big house was first to build to be the seat of power of the American colonial government during the summer. Remember that Philipines once was a colony. This building was destroyed by 1945 in the battle of liberation.

In 1947 the citizen decided to rebuild the house and give it to the presidents as a residence. It cost a lot of money but they include implementations as a conference room, additional guest room, and others in order to give an important power to the house. Important social and political events take place in here.

The plan was to make a Buckingham Palace in London in all its elegance.  In fact, its beautiful gardens do not ask for much else. For photography lovers, this is an ideal land.

And of course we can leave behind that inside the Mansion, where you can enter and visit, there is a mini museum housing memorabilia and works of art collected over its years of occupancy by the former presidents. Within the compound and adjacent to the Mansion is a two-story building which serves as the official residence of the Philippine President in Baguio City and nearby is a small amphitheater. A contingent of Philippine marines maintains the security of this large compound and you will see a some of them manning the guardhouse in the vicinity of the gate

This is a must stop in your visit to Baguio where you will enjoy the history of the city.
